HYROX Classes and the Future – What’s Next at Round 1

Blog post:  September 4th, 2025

This weekend, a big crew from Round 1 will be lining up at HYROX Perth — and we couldn’t be prouder of the work they’ve put in over the past few months. But while race day is one highlight, it’s not the end of the journey. HYROX at Round 1 has always been about more than a single event — it’s about building long-term fitness, balancing new ideas with our Round 1 traditions, and making sure there’s a pathway forward for everyone.

With that in mind, there are now a range of classes running in the Strength Gym:

  • Functional Fitness – our traditional Strength & Conditioning program

  • Fully Loaded – pure Body Building sessions

  • HYROX – delivered in four distinct flavours:

    • ENGINE

    • POWER

    • FOUNDATIONS

    • RACE READY

Each one has its own focus, but together they create a balanced timetable that gives every member the chance to train in a way that matches their goals. Here’s a look at where each of the HYROX streams is headed next.

HYROX POWER – New Meets Old

Over the past three months, HYROX POWER has really found its groove. What started as something brand-new has grown into the perfect combination of the new — HYROX strength endurance training — and the old — the kind of no-nonsense, heavy, Round 1 work you’ll remember from NO Rules, TANKS, and Functional Fitness. It’s been the best of both worlds, and we’re excited to keep it rolling.

HYROX ENGINE – Real Fitness for Everyone
If POWER is where we chase strength endurance, ENGINE is where we chase “FITNESS”. The addition of the Assault Air Runners has been a game-changer, giving us a way to integrate running into circuits in a way that’s consistent, fair, and genuinely inclusive. And if running’s not your thing? No worries — the bike, rowers, and skis are always there, ensuring everyone has a way to push their limits.

But ENGINE isn’t just about machines. Each session starts with 20–25 minutes of structured lifting (the same lifting program we use in Functional Fitness) and is followed by 20–25 minutes of endurance work.  This will be the perfect formula for anyone with real-world fitness goals. Whether that’s keeping up with the kids, playing better in your weekend sport, ticking off a fun run or half-marathon, or building toward next year’s HYROX – ENGINE is designed to get you there.

HYROX FOUNDATIONS – The Modern Body Work
Friday’s FOUNDATIONS sessions have become our “big finish” to the week — 50 minutes of mixed-mode strength and cardio that challenge every system in your body. In a lot of ways, they feel like the old-school Body Work sessions: longer, higher volume, and a real “all-in” vibe. The kind of session where you walk out tired, sweaty, but with a huge smile on your face.

HYROX RACE READY – Back to SPARTA
Saturday mornings have been all about RACE READY, building everyone toward this weekend’s event. But now, with 12 months until the next HYROX, we’ll be taking RACE READY back to its SPARTA roots. That means opening up the exercise toolbox again — not just the 8 HYROX fundamentals, but a broader variety of movements and challenges. Think of it as building the base for the year ahead, keeping things fresh, and making sure we’re ready for whatever comes next.  The name wont change again – we’ll keep calling it ‘RACE READY’ – but the variety of the sessions will change significantly.

At Round 1, HYROX isn’t a one-off race prep program. It’s a long-term training pathway, designed to keep you strong, fit, and moving forward year after year. The next season starts now — and we’re pumped to see where it takes us.
