Training With Friends: Why the Best Workouts Come with Banter

Happy Sunday Team!

It’s that time of year when life seems to speed up: Christmas parties, last-minute shopping, and everyone scrambling to find some kind of “balance” (whatever that means). But here at Round 1 Fitness, we’ve got a calendar full of events to keep you on track—and make it fun while you’re at it.

Mark Your Calendars: Here’s What’s Coming Up

  1. Christmas Party – November 29th
Get your tickets now! A chance to swap the gym gear for something that doesn’t have sweat patches, enjoy a drink or two, and share stories about that one time you almost hit your PB.
  2. Sunday Morning Coming Down – December 1st
Book your session for this epic Sunday morning. Think Friday Night Lights vibes, ice baths to cool off, and some delicious overnight oats to refuel. Sessions run at 7am and 8:30am—because nothing says “weekend warrior” like sweating it out while the rest of Perth is still in bed.
  3. Bring a Friend Week – Starting December 9th
You know that friend who’s always saying, “I’d totally come to the gym with you… if I wasn’t so busy”? Well, now’s their chance. For one week only, you can bring them along to any session for free. Whether it’s to share the glory of a killer workout—or to show them that skipping rope is harder than it looks—this is the perfect way to introduce your mates to the Round 1 Fitness vibe.

Training with Friends: Banter, Accountability, and a Bit of Healthy Rivalry

Let’s face it: everything is better with friends. Whether it’s a road trip, a backyard BBQ, or a Netflix binge, having someone by your side just makes it more enjoyable. And workouts? They’re no different.

Here’s the thing about training with friends: it’s not just about having a cheerleader. It’s about having someone who’ll call you out when you’re slacking, laugh at your terrible burpee technique, and join you in the post-workout collapse on the floor.

And don’t underestimate the power of gym banter.

  • “Didn’t you tell me you’d been ‘working out at home?’”
  • “Is there ANY danger you might actually do something?”
  • “Are you sweating already? We’ve only done the warm-up!”
  • “I’m pretty sure my Nanna lifts heavier than that.”

These gems might not feel like motivation in the moment, but trust me, they’ll keep you coming back for more (as long as you know they are coming from a place of LOVE and SUPPORT…there is a BIG difference between banter and dragging people down!!).

Why Training with Friends Works

  1. Accountability:
Skipping a workout is a lot harder when your mate is texting you “Where are you?” and tagging you in memes about laziness.  I know my ongoing Wednesday 1pm workout date is set “IN STONE”…missing that not only requires advance notice, lately it feels like several MONTHS advance notice is required for missing a session to be acceptable.
  2. Healthy Competition:
Friends bring out your competitive side. Whether it’s racing to finish a circuit or seeing who can hold a wall sit the longest, a little rivalry makes everything more exciting.  Let’s face it – it’s ok to NOT be first…just as long as you aren’t ALWAYS last.
  3. Shared Wins:
There’s something about hitting milestones together—like surviving a boxing class or nailing your first pull-up—that just makes the experience more rewarding.

Make It a Week to Remember

So, as December rolls in and the silly season takes over, why not make some memories in the gym? Whether it’s dragging your bestie to a boxing class, convincing your partner to lift a kettlebell for the first time, or bringing that one mate who always says, “I’d come if someone invited me,” Bring a Friend Week is the perfect opportunity to share what Round 1 Fitness is all about.

Oh, and if they happen to love it and want to join? You’ll officially be their favourite person (and we won’t complain either).

We DO want to make them welcome, so if you’re going to bring a buddy in, let us know so we can:
– Set them up on FitBox.
– Check they are all good for equipment.
– Check that they are all good in terms of injuries, illnesses etc.

Just send me an email (michael@round1fitness.com.au) and I’ll reach out to them and get everything in place!!

Don’t Wait—Get Your Friend Ready

Wrap up your year with a little fitness, a lot of laughs, and the people who make it all worth it. Whether it’s the Christmas party, Sunday Morning Coming Down, or Bring a Friend Week, let’s finish 2024 stronger (and maybe a little sweatier) together.

Because at the end of the day, the best workout buddies aren’t just there to share the pain—they’re there to remind you why you started in the first place.

See you (and your mates) in the gym,

Michael.
