A Christmas Message From Round 1 🎄 (Enjoy the Day… Without the Blowout)
Hey team,
Christmas Day is supposed to be AWESOME — turkey, trifle, family, friends… not fretting about macros, calories or training plans. So here’s a simple Round 1 guide to enjoying the day and staying in control. Remember, for most of us Christmas isn’t a single day — it’s a season. What matters isn't how 'ONE DAY' goes, but how you move through the holiday period as a whole.
1. Move First
Get up and move.
This doesn't have to mean 'gym'. It might be a 20-minute walk, some pushups, squats and lunges. It might be the daily "At Home Workout" that we publish in the FitBox app every day...it might be going down the beach for a walk and a swim...Basically, even if the gym is closed or it isn’t a “gym day” for you, you can still get some movement in.
Training keeps blood sugar stable and helps regulate appetite.
20-minutes is enough. Easy win. Big payoff.
2. Start With Protein
When you're building your plate at a Christmas lunch or holiday barbecue, be smart and stack your plate with protein first — you're not going to overeat on it.
Once that’s sorted, layer in your favourite Christmas sides. Keep it enjoyable but reasonable.
I always have a little reminder in my head to 'sample' everything but in quantities that mean I'm still good to jump around in the pool straight afterwards. If you overeat you feel bloated and tired...no-one wants to feel that way on the holidays.
3. Pick ONE Indulgence
The 'meal' is done and now the serious business is starting - pav, trifle, cheesecake, whatever.
You should 100% have it. You should enjoy it GUILT FREE.
BUT — it’s one and done. One plate. One dessert.
4. Be Smart With the Drinks
Be smart with alcohol - be the 'last to start',
Once the drinks start flowing, decision-making goes downhill fast. You should absolutely join in the fun, but if you 'hold off' on that first drink until lunch is on the table, well...you'll be SO MUCH BETTER off as the shadows creep across the pool in the afternoon/evening.
And remember as the day rolls on, switch back to water or sparkling water and you’ll feel 100x better the next morning.
5. Watch the Spiral
Christmas Day isn’t the issue.
Letting one big day slide into 3–4 days of overeating is where the real damage happens.
Enjoy Christmas. Sleep well. Wake up and get moving again.
That’s how progress survives the silly season.
Discipline isn’t about restriction — it’s about control.
Enjoy the meal. Don’t be weird and make other people uncomfortable by pulling out weird eating restrictions on Christmas Day. And come out stronger on the other side.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Round 1 Fitness 🎄💪
Let’s finish the year strong.
