The Role of the Coach: Why You’re Not Meant to Do It Alone
October 12th 2025
We love to celebrate individual transformation — the person who lost the weight, gained the strength, or finally nailed a double bodyweight deadlift. But behind almost every meaningful change is someone else who saw it coming long before it happened:
A coach.
A teammate.
A voice in your corner saying, “You’ve got this — keep going.”
Whether we’re talking about elite athletes or everyday gym-goers, the truth remains the same: you’re not meant to do this alone.
“Just Tell Me What To Do…”
This is the most common thing I hear from new members.
They’ve tried the “DIY” approach — random workouts, some YouTube videos, a couple of jogs here and there. But they’re not making progress. They feel lost. They feel stuck. And they’re tired of wondering what works and what doesn’t.
When you walk into Round 1, you don’t have to guess.
You don’t have to motivate yourself.
You don’t even need to understand why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Because that’s the coach’s job.
The Real Job of a Coach
You might think a coach is someone who just yells a bit and keeps time on the clock. But at its core, coaching is about belief.
A coach sees more in you than you see in yourself.
A coach knows how to scale, adjust, and individualize training to keep you progressing.
A coach builds trust — so that even when you’re tired, you keep turning up.
And yeah, sometimes a coach tells you to go just a little harder than you want to.
Because they’re holding the standard you said you wanted.
Progress Requires Structure
Let’s say your goal is to get stronger.
Or fitter. Or leaner. Or move better. Or prep for a Hyrox. Or just feel good in your clothes again.
That doesn’t happen by accident.
You need consistency.
You need structure.
You need someone to say, “Here’s the next step.”
And then? You need someone to make sure you actually take it.
That’s the role of the coach.
My Own Journey
Even as a coach myself — I’ve always had coaches in my corner.
Whether it’s football, strength work, business mentorship, or trying to get a handle on my own nutrition, I’ve never improved without someone else helping guide the way.
Coaches help you zoom out when you're too close.
They help you zoom in when you're coasting.
They help you keep going when you'd rather stop.
Coaches vs Classes
It’s easy to think of group training as “just a class.”
But at Round 1, every class is a coached session.
You’re not getting a program off a whiteboard and left to figure it out.
You’re getting a full warm-up, coaching cues, adjustments based on your needs, and someone to make sure you’re doing the right work — not just hard work.
Our coaches (Tracey, Matt, Hayden, Sophie, Gabby, Clint… and everyone else) are here for you — not just the clock.
Final Word
If you’ve been struggling to make progress… if you’ve been stuck in start/stop cycles… if you're just tired of doing it all on your own… then maybe it’s time to stop trying to go it alone.
You don’t need to be more motivated.
You don’t need to “get fit first.”
You just need to show up — and let a coach guide the rest.
We’ve got you.
Let’s go.
