During our last deload week I was asked a couple times about what is the purpose of deload? Which is a pretty fair question, we forever ask you guys to go hard and heavy. Then suddenly ask you not to for a week.
Before we get into that tho, lets briefly talk about lifting weights, and why a weight could be to heavy for you lift. If you can’t physically pick up a weight, there are 3 reasons as to why that could be:
You don’t have good enough technique under that amount of load.
You don’t yet have the required muscle to move that load.
You don’t have the muscle fibre recruitment to move that load.
Muscle fibre recruitment? Your muscles are basically cells that contract when electrically stimulated. How well you can do this, is your ability to recruit muscle fibres. Or in layman terms, how much voltage you have learnt to put through your system.
When executing a maximal lift, you are putting a maximum voltage through your system. Unfortunately our CNS isn’t made of copper wire that can be used and abused. It’s made from our nervous tissue, putting a max voltage through a small amount of damage. This means we need time to repair before trying this again.
So a deload week has 2 main reasons in a block:
To bring the weight back to a manageable level to help correct errors in form.
To give the CNS a chance to repair in preparation for another maximal effort.
We know this can be a daunting time. You’re probably wondering if we really are the right fit for each other. And it’s OK! Many people before you, have felt the same, and that’s why we want to offer you something special – our $29 Health Check.
Let’s work out together to see if we’re the right fit. Just hit the button below to let me know if you’re ready to see what’s included.
