What’s the best ‘diet’ aka way to eat, for physical health?
What you eat matters for overall health…Nothing new here, I know…But it’s more than just calories.
I’m talking the Mediterranean Diet…And it has the most robust support for optimal health.
No, it’s not a rigid diet. It’s more of a way of eating, rather than a strict rule-based diet…And it looks something like this…
Lots of vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts, beans, cereals, grains, fish and unsaturated fats like olive oil…Maybe add in some red wine…And maybe cut back on the red meat and dairy.
Eating in this way is associated with a lower risk of mortality (death), cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease and cancer.
This is thought to be primarily down to the diets effect on the blood lipid profile, inflammation and oxidative stress, improved insulin sensitivity and increased endothelial function.
