    TIP TUESDAY – What will get you the best results in the gym?

    WHAT WILL GET YOU THE BEST RESULTS IN THE GYM?

    There are only a few months left of 2022 and with the silly season just around the corner, now is the time to put in the work! I’m sure you have heard it before, but consistency is one of the most important factors when working towards a goal. Everyone’s training will have a different focus depending on your desired goal — hypertrophy, endurance, strength, etc. If you aren’t following a program consistently, the chance of it working is going to be significantly reduced. Whatever your goals may be, they all require a consistent level of training for you to reach them. Without consistency, you may not have enough structure to allow for growth, your body will have a harder time adapting, and developing habits will be more difficult. 

    If you follow a program consistently, and progressively overload the muscles by forcing them to do more than what they are used to, your body will gradually adapt to the increased training stress. Being consistent with training will increase the likelihood of seeing adaptations to the training stimulus sooner, leading to an increase in strength and performance. When it comes to setting daily or weekly goals, make sure they are achievable but also sustainable. Setting yourself tasks that don’t suit your current lifestyle is like trying to fit a square into a triangle. If you’re struggling, start with one small change, then add another small change, and before you know it these small changes will add up to form new habits.

    There will most likely be days that your plan doesn’t work out how it was supposed to, but that doesn’t mean all progress is lost! If you do slip up, you don’t need to turn the rest of your day or week into a write off. Pick yourself right back up and continue by doing something that you know will make you feel good. You don’t have to wait for a new day, week, month, or year to start again. You may have gone slightly off track but that doesn’t mean you have to follow up one bad habit with multiple more. One workout is not going to instantly change your body composition, just like missing one won’t make you lose all your gains. It comes down to how consistent you are over a period.

    Ask yourself if the action you’re taking is in alignment with your desired outcome. Is it getting you closer to your goal or further away? Instead of calling it quits as soon as you skip a day or aren’t seeing progress as quickly as you like, remember that progress isn’t linear. It’s the 1%er habits that compound over time, and when you commit to being consistent over the long-term, you end up seeing greater results in the short-term!
