Alright! Everyone Maca-wish for some more energy! Let’s Maca some noise!
Maca root, the part of the plant most commonly used, contains fiber, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Maca is a cruciferous vegetable related to broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale native to the high plateaus of the Peruvian Andes mountain range. It sounds fancy right? So it must be good for you.
It’s biggest and one of its most valuable benefits is it’s ability to help you regulate your hormones. That in itself will help with your sleep, mood and will boost your energy levels. All that will carry over to better recovery which is what we all want coming out of some of these classes we have been doing lately.
One trial in 2015 also reported improvements in blood pressure and depression when consuming maca powder over a period of just 12 weeks. Further studies support these findings, with improvements reported in anxiety & depression. Other studies have also linked it to improved libido… I guess that’s why it’s from the Maca root aye?
While Maca isn’t anything new, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking for an extra buzz before a workout or even something to help recover after. 3-5 grams in a smoothie and you’re done. Try it out and hit me up with your results. It’s recommended people with thyroid issues, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your practitioner.
