3 REASONS TO LIFT WEIGHTS…
(DESPITE THE FACT IT WON’T BURN MANY CALORIES)
No biggie, but higher strength is linked with a lower risk of death.
If that isn’t a reason to lift weights then I don’t know what is.
Cool fact: the number of push-ups you can do is linked to your risk of cardiovascular events. The more push-ups the men in the study could do, the lower their risk of cardiovascular events.
So, forget the calories or fat loss.
Lifting weights and increasing strength is the best thing you can do for your health!
The physique you want usually requires some muscle.
‘Abs are built in the kitchen’ is pretty misleading.
Yes, you need low body fat to see abs, but you also need abs i.e. muscle. You won’t look lean if you haven’t built muscle.
No amount of dieting will make you look lean if you don’t have the underlying muscle.
Most of the fitness girls/guys you aspire to, have been lifting weights for YEARS.
TO AVOID WEIGHT REGAIN
People who exercise and lift weights are less likely to regain body fat.
Lower energy expenditure is observed after 6 months of caloric restriction BUT only in those who did not exercise.
Consistent exercise is the biggest predictor of long-term fat loss maintenance.
Risk of obesity is increased in people who have a high-risk gene variant of the FTO gene.
However, this impact is lessened by exercise.
See you in the gym (for a weights session;)
