Hi and welcome to another week,
Fantastic sessions again last week – Wednesday and Friday were particularly memorable for me – lot’s of cardio and (for me at least) a fair bit of mental strength required to keep pushing to the end! Can’t wait to get the new week started tomorrow – I just find that when I train (and train hard) on a Monday, it is that much easier to keep my training going during the week. Miss Monday and it becomes that much harder to really get going until Thursday – and even then it is only out of guilt!
Apologies for the later than normal post today. I joined quite a few Round 1 members (and a few thousand others!) in the ‘Run for A Reason’ event this morning. I was a bit concerned about the event going in – I haven’t exactly been doing much running – but I actually found the 14km’s flew by. I admit, my time was nothing to write home about (1:14 ‘something’) but I had no trouble with the distance – I guess all those Boxing classes do get you fit…and the fitness translates to other forms of cardio.
Anyway, it was a great event and I would encourage any of you who think you might like to have a go at the annual ‘City to Surf’ event in August to sign up and give it a try. If you are consistently getting through 3 (or more) classes per week, adding 1-2 runs per week of 20-30 minutes will be more than sufficient to see you finish successfully.
Have a look at the Round 1 Fitness ‘Facebook Group’ if you want to see a few of the happy snaps I took whilst completing the run today.
Gym Update #1
Not much is new this week – I am expecting a new delivery of gloves though which I hope to make available to members within the next couple of weeks. These gloves are 100% leather and I spent a bit of time with the manufacturer to get the design ‘right’ for use in the gym – they have a detached ‘thumb’ so you can pick up the weights, and an extra long wrist strap to offer additional support and protection…I have been trialling the prototype myself for the last 6 weeks or so and have been very pleased.
These ‘Round 1 Fitness’ gloves will be available for just $35.
Mailbag
No mailbag for the last couple of weeks, but one worth sharing today:
Hi Michael,
Just thought I’d drop you a line to tell you of my experience over the last week, and how going to Round 1 helped me to prepare for it.
I just spent the last 6 days completing the Cape To Cape trek – 135km of walking and climbing various terrain from Dunsborough to Augusta. It was both physically and mentally tough going. Throughout the trek, I often likened the experience to a session at Round 1, reminding myself that I needed to push myself to the end to gain the benefits of completing it.
Physically, the preparation from Round 1 was invaluable. As much as I disliked “mountain climbers” at the time, this was the ideal prep for many steep inclines, not to mention 8kms of walking through soft sand as part of my last day.
I would highly recommend this trek to anyone considering challenging themselves both physically and mentally.
Looking forward to returning to the gym in about a week, once I sorted out my blisters on my feet 🙂
Cheers
Steve
So – don’t just take it from me – take it from Steve. Our classes really do get you ‘Fit for Life’ and challenging yourself mentally to ‘push through it’ really is applicable to other aspects of your life!
May Challenge Update
A couple of new leaders in the Summit Challenge over the past few days – the report from Ryan upon completion was ‘tougher than back-to-back classes’! I am not sure I completely agree with that, but if you want to ramp up your training in an effort to meet your goals just try going flat out on the Summit Trainer for 12 minutes…I promise you wont regret it.
Call to Arms – Fun Runners!
Well, the Run for a Reason is over and the City to Surf is next. It is only a couple of months away so think about giving it a try!
Link of the week
Following the ‘Mens Health’ Ab workout a few weeks ago, this weeks link is one for the girls – a girls specific abs program:
