More new equipment and Fun Runs

Hi and welcome to another week,

The cooler weather made training last week just somehow more fun…rather than worrying about the heat, where my water was and thinking about how exactly I was going to make it to the end I was just able to focus on training as hard as I could.  If this is what the next few months has in store, then I say ‘AWESOME’.  The harder I can train the more chance I will have to reach my training targets (currently trying to get to 75kgs whilst also upping my chin-up max from the current 24 to over 30).

    Gym Update #1

You may have noticed (or experienced) a few situations where both of the treadmills are in use and all you want to do is a ‘bit of cardio’.  I have noticed it too, and to try and resolve the issue (as well as add a bit of variety to your training) two new pieces of cardio gear are on the way:

    • Life Fitness Cross Trainer
    • Life Fitness Summit Trainer

I am really happy to be able to add the new gear to the gym and hope that everyone gets the chance to give it a go.  The Summit Trainer is a particularly challenging piece of equipment and I am sure many tortuous hours will be spent climbing to the top.

    Gym Update #2

The new 20kg barbells have been such a hit (my aching shoulders will attest!) that four (4) more of these bars are on the way as well as a nice shiny rack to hold them.  This will ensure that in any groups including 4 people or more, everyone will have access to the equipment they need to maximise their training.

    Gym Update #3

A quick update that the next order of ‘club’ gloves is scheduled to arrive ‘within the next 10 days’ according to the latest delivery schedule…here’s hoping!

    Easter Opening Hours

There is effectively a 5-day holiday coming up over Easter this year – this is because Easter and ANZAC day occur at the same time.

The gym will be open over this time – at least some of the time.  Please have a look at the signs around the club or refer to the table below:

    Day / Date Gym Hours
    Good Friday CLOSED
    Easter Saturday Normal Hours – 8am – 1pm
    Easter Sunday CLOSED
    ANZAC Day (Monday 25th) CLOSED
    Tuesday 26th Public Holiday Hours – 9am – 1pm

    More on Opening Hours

Just a quick reminder than the 9am classes on Saturday and Sunday (and public holidays) will now commence at 9:15am.  This worked well last week and I appreciate the patience shown by everyone who arrived in time for a 9am start.

March Challenge – IT IS OVER!

All that remains is the ‘Train the Trainer’ day.  Now, I am sure both Emma and Ryan are putting together their plans and are just waiting for their chance…the plan from here is:

    –         Emma and Ryan will each submit their ‘Train the Trainer’ plans which I will put up on the blog.

    –         A ‘special’ class will be arranged where the trainers (well, me at least) will attempt to complete the class….other members will also be invited to work their way through the challenge (or maybe just heckle from the sidelines).

    More news soon!

Call to Arms – Fun Runners!

There are a few ‘Fun Runs’ coming up in the next couple of months – and if you are interested in getting involved please let me know.  We are more than happy to help you out with running programs and even race day attire (singlets or t-shirts) if you are interested.

For anyone interested, the HBF ‘Run for a Reason’ (http://hbfrun.com.au/) is just over a month away (May 22nd) and you have heaps of time to prepare for either the 4.5km or 14km events.

Let me know if you are interested and we will see if we can get a few Round 1’ers working through the course together.

    Member Profiles

Thanks for everyone who has completed a Member Profile so far.  I can’t wait to get this info up on the website – the advice and experiences being shared by everyone have proven equal parts inspirational and humorous so far.  If you want to get involved and complete the questionnaire, please grab one off the counter or let me know via email and I will send one through.

    Link of the week

I have promised a couple of training plans for both the 4.5km and 14km HBF ‘Run for a Reason’ courses and will include them in the blog next week…for now though, I thought that including a really simple 5km running plan would show you how easily achievable doing the 4.5km run would be:

Anyway, that is it from me for another week.

    See you in the gym!

    Michael.
