Nuts are a healthy snack option.
In general nuts are a good source of fat, fibre and protein. They also have a number of vitamins and minerals, including magnesium and vitamin E. Though they are usually high in fat, the fat that they contain is a good healthy fat but obviously you don’t want to eat lots of them as they are high in calories.
Eating nuts on a regular basis can improve your health in many ways, it can reduce diabetes and heart disease risk, as well as cholesterol, blood pressure and triglyceride levels.
TWO of the most healthiest nuts are:
ALMONDS – as they have a combination of protein, healthy fats, fibre, minerals and antioxidants, and are a great anti-inflammatory.
One serving of Almonds – 28 grams has roughly:
Calories: 161, Fat: 14 grams, Protein: 6 grams, Carbs: 6 grams, Fibre: 3.5 grams, Vitamin E: 37% of the RDI (Reference Daily Intake), Magnesium: 19% of the RDI
PISTACHIOS – they also contain a combination of protein, healthy fats, minerals and antioxidants. However they have an extra natural source of melatonin (the hormone in the body that helps induce sleep) so if you are having trouble getting to sleep they are a great source.
One serving of Pistachios – 28 grams has roughly:
Calories: 156, Fat: 12.5 grams, Protein: 6 grams, Carbs: 8 grams, Fiber: 3 grams, Vitamin E: 3% of the RDI, Magnesium: 8% of the RDI
In a nutshell, nuts are one of the healthiest snack you can eat, as they contain a wide range of essential nutrients.
