Hi and welcome to another week,
The best thing about last week was just ‘getting to the end’. Recovering from a marathon whilst trying to finish the August challenge was not a great plan – but somehow I got there in the end. The classes – it is hard to remember anything past the pain, but I did really enjoy the Friday session: Simple plan, 2-minute rounds, lots of bags, power ropes…good, fun, good intensity. Loved it.
Big mix of sessions coming up this week – no ‘new’ exercises, but a few things we haven’t done much of and good variety between round times. 1-minute rounds looks like a lot of fun with heaps of abs interspersed with some chest work – all in all, a good week ahead.
For the second week in a row I get to pay tribute to some gym members who have achieved great things in their sporting careers. Last week it was Rochelle Rogers winning the Half-marathon at the City to Surf, this week it is Grant Davey leading the Cockburn Cougars to the State Basketball League title after a 20 year drought. And it wasn’t just Grant – there are a heap of Cougars training at Round 1 (and nursing sore heads today) – to Baz, JD, Fleury Mac, Emma P, Paul and Kristen – and even to ex-Cougar Sean O’Neill a big congratulations on your success (and to anyone I have forgotten whilst writing this Sunday morning – apologies).
I was listening to the end of the game whilst driving home from the footy last night and had to laugh when I heard Grant’s voice during a late timeout – “Let’s keep looking good out there – we have been looking good all night”. The coach was talking about persistence and playing the percentages right to the end – Grant was talking about looking good and having fun. From 2010 whipping boys to 2012 champs? Awesome effort and a great result for a terrific group of people.
The August specials are done. To everyone who has taken advantage of the 10 sessions/$99 special or the Scoopon Buy-back, thanks very much for your business – we really do appreciate it and hope that you enjoy the sessions.
For those of you who missed out – well, our membership prices – particularly the 12-month package, really are awesome value and with unlimited classes available (and remember, there are 60 each and every week). Whilst you might have save ‘a bit’ of money with the August $99 special – it is still $10 per class. With our 12-month membership, if you do 2 sessions each week they are $6.80 each – stretch to 3 and the cost is just $4.50 per session…AND you can also do your running, lifting etc.
The August challenge is OVER and it was definitely the toughest one yet. I know for me trying to do the extra cardio and WOD’s on top of the classes was a real battle – when I had the time, I didn’t have the inclination…when I had the inclination, it always seemed I didn’t have the time. In the end though, 25 classes, 5 runs and 5 WOD’s done – challenge over.
A big congratulations to everyone who finished the challenge – I will be putting the shirts together in the next couple of days and you will be able to trade in your completed challenge form for a ‘Get it Done’ T from Wednesday.
For those who remember last week, I mentioned the Whole Life Challenge and suggested we might like to get involved. In short, we are NOT allowed to do this (as a gym) at this time, but that doesn’t mean we are unable to complete a challenge that encompasses training, diet and rehab on our own.
I have set up a Google docs based management environment and will be sending it out to everyone who registered their interest LAST week. If you are interested in a 6-week diet/training challenge, please let me know via return mail and I will include you on the same invitation. Our challenge wont start until Monday, September 17th so you still have a few days to decide whether or not you want ‘IN’ for this one.
The 2012 Hands on India Ball is on Saturday October 20th at the Hyatt Regency Perth. The ball is a fundraiser to help the Chiropractic students at Murdoch University travel to India to provide free chiropractic and medical care to the Siriguri community – find more details HERE.
Tickets to the ball – which features a three course meal, four hour beer and wine package and entertainment including music, Bollywood dancers and Henna tattooing – are $175 each. If anyone would like to be part of a table and help the students out, please let me know via email and I will look after the admin side of things.
Apologies to everyone, but our latest order of towels and backpacks is still pending – I would like to promise it will arrive this week but the truth is what I am told will happen rarely seems to happen…so let’s just leave it as ‘they will be here soon’. In the meantime, please make sure you bring a towel to each class with you.
I will wrap up the footy tipping and dream team competitions NEXT week…with both competitions finishing later today I would like to give the winners a little bit of acknowledgement!
