My Goals

My goal is to be fit and healthy and to be a good role model for my kids. To lead a fit healthy lifestyle and maybe one day to be able to do a Muscle up. I have never had great upper body strength, so it is a work in progress.

Training

I tend to be in the gym training at either 5:00am, or 9:15 depending on commitments.

First Class

First class was a beginner’s class. I went in feeling a little like a fish out of water. I really had no idea what to expect. However, it only took about 5 mins to realise that this was the gym for me.

Most memorable class

My first tanks class. Michael said “Ok guys, time for your 3km rowing time trial’. Eeek! At this point all I could think was what have I got myself into!

Favourite exercise

Over time the assault bikes. I have developed a love hate relationship with the assault bikes. I really love to hate them!

Most hated exercise

Muscle ups. Why? Because I can’t do them. Also any exercise that flares up long term injuries. Deadlifts, pistol squats etc. I can usually manage them as long as I don’t get carried away.

Advice to share

Just keep it simple to start with. Don’t be intimidated by the super strong, super fit instructors or members. Let this motivate you. As I noticed some pretty cool variations being added to different exercises, I couldn’t believe what these guys were doing. However, with consistence and a want to succeed I found myself doing small variations to make certain exercise more challenging. Sometimes you will surprise yourself and other days you will fail miserably. Either way just remember you’re not the only one! Make solutions for your problems, not problems for solutions.
